Easter Egg Hunt & Flowering of the Cross

As in our celebration of Christmas, St. Mary’s is committed to a full Passiontide and Easter experience, with lilies and special music and the Eucharist to celebrate the Risen Christ. At the same time, we also have traditions which involve even the youngest of our toddlers in the specialness of the season.

Our parish-wide Easter Egg Hunt utilizes the youth of the church to hide hundreds of (plastic) eggs around our beautiful campus, and then the younger children—grouped by age—are encouraged to find them. Everyone “wins,” and a great time is had by the children (and the adults watching them).

In a more clearly religious act, the children are encouraged to bring flowers from the home or community (or the church’s supply) and to fasten them to a six-foot bare cross of the Passion to symbolize the new birth of Christianity through the Resurrection. Even the youngest children seem to appreciate the symbolism of this beautiful moment.
