Christmas At Saint Mary's
As a traditional Episcopal church, Saint Mary’s is committed to celebrating the great feasts of the Christian faith in meaningful and reverent ways. We offer the traditional Hispanic celebration of Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter before the birth of Jesus, Las Posadas, followed by a festive party with piñatas. On Christmas Eve we have two celebrations of Holy Eucharist: an earlier service more oriented toward children and families, and a later high mass with special music. The altar is banked with poinsettias given by parishioners in honor or in memory of loved ones
There is a bilingual service on Christmas Day, and special efforts are made to deliver the Eucharist to the sick and other shut-ins. On a lighter side, we also have a parish-wide Christmas Party, a Christmas tree with ornaments made by children, an ECW Christmas Party, and a Youth Christmas Party.
In all our activities, the central emphasis is on fellowship and joyful service in the knowledge of Christ’s incarnation, His birth for the sake of all. The gift of the Christ child is reflected in a variety of Christmas service projects throughout the church, such as Adopt-a-Family, or collecting blankets for the homeless, or collecting food for Sharing God’s Love.
